Douglass Day celebrates the chosen birthday of Frederick Douglass and Black history with a community transcription event focused on making materials in Black archives more accessible. We are partnering with CDH, the Princeton Public Library and Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM) to host two transcribe-a-thon locations: one in the Princeton Public Library Community Room and one at SSAAM. This year, the transcription activities focus on the Library of Congress African American Perspectives Collection. Cake and light refreshments will be provided. For more information about the event and to register for either Princeton Public Library or SSAAM location, see the Transcribe-a-thon event page.
To participate, register here.
There is also a partnership with Special Collections to host a corresponding Douglass Day Special Collections Showcase on the same day, February 14th, from 2-4pm in the Firestone Lobby. The Showcase will feature a remarkable selection of materials from the Princeton University Library's African American collection, including a letter written by Frederick Douglass.
