Undergraduate Major Chemistry

Personal Bio Born in sunny San Diego, I am a California native with a sarcastic humor and a passion for eating. I meandered through majors from music performance to biology until I somehow ended up with a chemistry degree. I spend my days now in lab taming the wiles of photochemistry.
Fun Fact I am a professional violinist!
Research Keywords Photochemistry Upconversion Light
Research Pitch Light illuminates nearly every aspect of our lives, from our solar calculators to the ocean currents that dictate our weather. I study a curious property of light that enables us to turn low energy wavelengths (ie red light) into high energy wavelengths (ie blue light). This upconversion process offers opportunities to many different disciples of science, such as the ability to drastically improve the efficiency of photovoltaics. In particular, I am working on applying this emerging technology to power chemical reactions and solve the longstanding challenges in the application of photochemistry in the synthesis of organic molecules.
