Personal Bio

I grew up in New Delhi, the capital city of India. As a child, while biking through the city’s overflowing streets I’d often marvel at how unconscious my actions were! These suspicions about the limits of conscious control led to my fascination with animal behaviour. Hence I decided to pursue the life sciences, and joined the biosciences and bioengineering program at the Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur and then later the graduate program in Neuroscience, here at Princeton! In my free time, I like to concoct neural theories accounting for issues of feminism, religious belief and morality. I enjoy indie music and film, fiction and satire and, cooking and camping.

Fun Fact

I do not sweat.

Research Pitch

I study how the brain processes information when making different decisions in response to a stimulus, depending on the context. For example, when a phone rings, your decision to pick it up might be different when you are in a meeting vs when you are outside. I study this process in rats that are trained to perform such contextual decision making tasks, by inactivating and recording from their brain regions!
